Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $960,000 grant to the city of Vallejo, California, to conduct an infrastructure study of Mare Island. This EDA grant will be matched with $540,000 in local investment.
“Improving our nation’s infrastructure is a critical component of President Bidens’s Build Back Better agenda and we are committed to helping our communities implement their plans to provide the vital infrastructure that businesses need to be successful,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This EDA investment will provide for a comprehensive study of Mare Island’s roads, sewer, and water systems to support future improvements and growth.”
“Investing in our infrastructure to support the growth of thriving communities like Mare Island is foundational to our recovery efforts and long-term prosperity,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. “This grant will enable Vallejo to assess important infrastructure needs for Mare Island and inform future planning efforts.”
“Ensuring that we strengthen and rebuild our infrastructure for the needs of our 21st Century economy is a top priority of mine and I’m excited to join with the Economic Development Administration to announce $960,000 in Federal funding to boost infrastructure investments on Mare Island,” said Congressman Mike Thomson (CA-05). “This funding will be used to study and better understand the needs to improve the roads, sewer and water systems on the Island and allow the Federal government to use resources in a smart and efficient way. Congratulations to the City of Vallejo on this exciting grant award!”
