Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $4.1 million grant to the city of Danville, Virginia for construction of a new aviation training facility.
This grant will facilitate construction of a new, 12,532-square-foot training facility at Danville Regional Airport to support aviation maintenance and flight instruction training activities. This EDA investment will be matched with $2.7 million in local funds.
“President Biden’s Investing in America agenda is about ensuring that all communities have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive in today’s economy,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “America’s workers are the source of our country’s innovation and competitiveness, and this EDA grant will support workforce training for in-demand jobs in transportation, logistics, and more.”
“The Economic Development Administration works closely with local communities to support place-based economic growth,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This investment in the Danville Regional Airport will support the creation of critical jobs, and the development of a resilient regional economy.”
“It is critical we maintain the facilities that drive economic growth in the Commonwealth,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “This major investment toward the City of Danville will play a pivotal role in enhancing community infrastructure and building a skilled workforce.”
“I am thrilled to see this federal funding head to Danville to enhance aviation training capabilities and create new job opportunities for Virginians. This investment will lay the foundation for a new facility while helping to boost the local economy,” said Senator Mark Warner.
“Investing in our airport infrastructure and workforce is good for the economy and helps Virginians safely get where they need to go,” said Senator Tim Kaine. “I’m glad Danville is receiving $4.1 million in federal funding to build a new aviation training facility that will create jobs and support Virginia’s aviation workforce.”
“I am pleased to see this federal and local partnership to build the aviation training and maintenance facility in Danville. Danville is a great place for business, and this grant will help move the community forward,” said Representative Bob Good (VA-05).
