Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $3 million grant to the Peralta Community College District of Oakland to renovate, expand, and modernize the College of Alameda Aviation Technology Maintenance Training facility. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 1,109 new jobs and retain 1,000 jobs.
“President Trump is committed to ensuring that American businesses have access to the skilled workforce they need to compete globally,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “Through the expansion of this training center, businesses in Oakland will continue achieve success as a result of a highly trained workforce.”
This investment will support the refurbishment of the current facility to provide local residents with expanded workforce training opportunities. The project will help create higher skill, higher paying jobs for the region’s workforce and help local aviation employers meet the increased demand for qualified aviation technicians.
