EDA: $3.3 Million Invested for Business Park Infrastructure Improvements in Big Spring, TX

Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $3.3 million grant to the city of Big Spring, Texas, for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements at the Crossroads Business Park.

This project will provide the necessary utilities to support commercial and industrial business development and create jobs in the region. This EDA grant will be matched with $813,200 in local funds and is expected to create 90 jobs and generate $29 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

“President Biden is committed to supporting communities across the country as they improve their regional economies,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment will provide capacity for new industrial and commercial businesses in Big Spring, broadening and strengthening the regional economy.”

“The Economic Development Administration is pleased to support Big Spring as it seeks to grow the region’s economy,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This project will provide the utilities and infrastructure necessary to attract new businesses to the area and create jobs.”

“Thank you to the Economic Development Administration for investing in critical water and wastewater infrastructure improvements at Crossroads Business Park in Big Spring,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “West Texas is brimming with promise, and this grant will help bring even more economic opportunities and good-paying jobs for hardworking Texans in the region.”

“Access to safe and efficient infrastructure is critical for the continued economic development in Texas,” said Senator John Cornyn. “I applaud this announcement and look forward to seeing the positive impact this investment will have for Big Springs.”

This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission (PBRPC). EDA funds PBRPC to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
