EDA: $2 Million Invested to Support Disaster Resiliency and Economic Growth in Canton, NC

Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2 million grant to the city of West Lafayette, Indiana, for wastewater treatment infrastructure improvements to support semiconductor manufacturing in the region.

This grant will increase capacity at the Purdue Research Park to support construction of a semiconductor manufacturing facility. This EDA investment will be matched with $2 million in local funds and is expected to create 400 jobs and generate $20 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

“The Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America Agenda provides critical infrastructure upgrades to ensure that local communities can attract private investment and good-paying jobs,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment in West Lafayette, Indiana will help strengthen strategic domestic supply chains by re-shoring semiconductor manufacturing and enhancing U.S. global competitiveness and national security.”

“The U.S. Economic Development Administration is proud to partner with West Lafayette, Indiana, in its place-based economic development strategies,” said Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Cristina Killingsworth. “This project will build a robust wastewater system that has the capacity to support major manufacturers and businesses at the Purdue Research Park that will catalyze technology-based regional economic growth.”
