Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.6 million grant to the town of Goldsby, Oklahoma, to build a wastewater infrastructure system.
This grant will provide a sanitary sewer system to support industry and business development in the region. This EDA project will be matched by $2.2 million in local funds and is expected to create 179 jobs and generate $7 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.
“President Biden is dedicated to supporting communities with resources needed to boost economic development,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo. “This EDA investment in Goldsby will support the town as it seeks to attract new businesses to create a diverse, resilient economy.”
“The Economic Development Administration supports community-led economic development opportunities,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This project will provide the critical infrastructure needed to grow Goldsby’s commercial and industrial base.”
“The local funds from Goldsby and contribution by the EDA project will not only improve infrastructure but will have a positive impact on Oklahoma’s economy and workforce,” said Governor Kevin Stitt. “I am pleased with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s investment in rural Oklahoma.”
“I am delighted that the Goldsby community is receiving a substantial grant from the Economic Development Administration to support the construction of a needed wastewater infrastructure system,” said Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04). “This initiative will not only spur business development and create jobs in the area, but it will ultimately benefit every member of the community.”
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments (ASCOG). EDA funds ASCOG to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
