Today the U.S. Census Bureau published new and updated North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) codes as part of the 2017 Economic Census. The NAPCS is a comprehensive, market-based, hierarchical classification system for goods and services.
The NAPCS:
- Is not industry-of-origin based but can be linked to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) industry structure.
- Is consistent across the three North American countries.
- Improves identification and classification of products across international classification systems.
