The Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) is releasing the fiscal year (FY) 2022 snapshot report and public data file based on Transaction Level Report (TLR) and Consumer Loan Report (CLR) data. This data was reported in FY 2023 by active Community Development Financial Institutions Program (CDFI Program) and Native American Community Assistance Program (NACA Program) Financial Assistance (FA), and CDFI Rapid Response Program (CDFI RRP) Recipients via the CDFI Fund’s Awards Management Information System (AMIS).
The release details how CDFI Program and NACA Program FA Recipients provide loans and investments in low-income communities. In addition, the release for the first time includes details on how CDFI RRP Recipients responded to the economic challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in underserved communities.
The public data file includes the features and locations of over 2.8 million loans and investments totaling more than $85 billion made in FY 2022 and reported in FY 2023 by 803 CDFIs. An additional 1.4 million loans and investments from FY 2021 late submissions are included in the data file as well.
The TLR portion of the public data file has transaction level data on roughly one million individual loans and investments for FY 2022 activity, as well as FY 2021 late submissions. The CLR data details the methods by which CDFI banks and credit unions with CDFI, NACA, and CDFI RRP Program Awards provided consumer loans in their communities. This data file includes approximately 3.2 million consumer loans totaling more than $36 billion that were made in FY 2022 and reported in FY 2023, as well as FY 2021 late submissions from banks and credit unions.
Data Background
As part of their compliance requirements, CDFI Program and NACA Program Active FA Award Recipients, as well as CDFI RRP Recipients, are required to submit transactional information within six months after the end of their respective fiscal years. This includes the TLR for all CDFIs and CLR for CDFI banks and credit unions with consumer loan activity. The TLR data release includes a total of 61 variables and 1,002,505 observations detailing financing activities of CDFIs across all three award programs. The CLR data release includes a total of 12 variables and 387,484 observations aggregated to the census tract on consumer lending activities across all three award programs.
All TLR and CLR data released to the public are masked to protect the identity of individual CDFIs.
