ABA: Foundation Seeking Banks to Host 10th Annual Lights, Camera, Save! Video Contest

The American Bankers Association Foundation is urging banks across the country to participate in its Lights, Camera, Save! video contest. Lights, Camera, Save! is a national contest that encourages teens to use video to communicate the value of sound money management.

Through Lights, Camera, Save!, teen participants will create a video up to 90 seconds that demonstrates the importance of using money wisely and submit the video to their local participating bank. The contest is open to teen filmmakers of all experience levels.

Registered banks will host the first round of judging and select a winning student to compete on the national level for several awards, including a grand prize of $5,000, plus a scholarship for a teacher at their school to attend the 2020 Jump$tart National Educator Conference. Last year, 131 banks hosted 149 contests in 48 states.  [View the 2018-2019 winning videos]

“Ten years ago, we were in search of innovative ways to reach teens about the importance of saving and sound money management,” said Corey Carlisle, ABA Foundation executive director. “Lights, Camera, Save! was born and each year, the student filmmakers have found increasingly impressive ways to get their peers interested in financial education.”

This year’s contest is sponsored by Banzai, a free, online financial literacy platform for students of all ages that merges classroom learning with real-world experience.

“Our sponsorship reflects our conviction that banks have a crucial role to play in teaching America’s youth to manage money wisely,” said Morgan Vandagriff, Banzai CEO. “The Lights, Camera, Save! contest gives local banks a great way to become involved in this important mission.”

The ABA Foundation is offering a free informational webinar on Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. ET for interested banks and will provide contest registrants with real-time customer support and promotional materials. Bankers interested in participating in the contest can sign up online at aba.com/lightscamerasave. Registered banks will be featured on the list of participating banks on ABA Foundation’s website and in press materials.

Since 1997, the ABA Foundation’s financial education initiatives have reached 10.5 million young people with the help of more than 260,000 banker volunteers.

The American Bankers Association is the voice of the nation’s $18 trillion banking industry, which is composed of small, regional and large banks. Together, America’s banks employ more than 2 million men and women, safeguard nearly $14 trillion in deposits and extend more than $10 trillion in loans.

Through its leadership, partnerships, and national programs, ABA’s Community Engagement Foundation (dba ABA Foundation), a 501(c)3, helps bankers provide financial education to individuals at every age, elevate issues around affordable housing and community development, and achieve corporate social responsibility objectives to improve the well-being of their customers and their communities.
