Two Mississippi counties are now eligible to receive federal disaster funding to supplement state and local recovery from storms that occurred earlier this year. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has added Humphreys County to the federal designation in response to severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that affected the state Feb. 22-24. Holmes County was approved in response to severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding that occurred April 13-14.
FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program reimburses the state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities.
To date 25 counties have been approved for Public Assistance under the February declaration: Alcorn, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Clay, Coahoma, Grenada, Humphreys, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tishomingo, Union, Washington, Webster and Yalobusha.
