FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the Navajo Nation to supplement tribal recovery efforts in the areas affected by a snowstorm and flooding on Feb. 21 to 24, 2019.
The President’s action makes federal funding available to the tribe and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work resulting from the snowstorm and flooding. In addition, federal funding is available to the Navajo Nation on a cost-sharing basis for debris removal and emergency protective measures (Categories A and B), including snow assistance under the Public Assistance program.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the Navajo Nation.
Benigno Bern Ruiz has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Ruiz said additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
