Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is investing $3.9 million in the state of Texas for roadway and water infrastructure improvements needed to support job growth in the state.
The EDA investments announced today are:
- The city of San Marcos will receive $2.5 million to support roadway infrastructure improvements at the San Marcos Regional Airport. This EDA investment will be matched with $1.1 million in local funds and is expected to create 20 jobs, retain 17 jobs, and generate $400,000 in private investment, according to grantee estimates.
- The city of Crystal City will receive $1.4 million for water infrastructure improvements to support economic growth. This EDA investment will be matched with $350,000 in local funds and is expected to retain nearly 200 jobs, according to grantee estimates.
“The Biden-Harris Administration’s is investing in opportunity for the middle-class by building critical infrastructure and supporting job creation across the nation,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “These EDA investments in San Marcos and Crystal City will help improve roadway and water infrastructure to create jobs and spur private investment.”
“The U.S. Economic Development Administration works closely with local communities to ensure place-based economic growth,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and External Affairs, performing the non-exclusive functions and duties of the Assistant Secretary for Economic Development Cristina Killingsworth. “These projects will support San Marcos and Crystal City by improving infrastructure in each community, attracting private investment and creating strong, resilient regional economies.”
“Texas’ strong infrastructure is a magnet that attracts businesses into our rapidly growing communities,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “I thank the Economic Development Administration for these grants that will help improve roadway and water infrastructure in San Marcos and Crystal City. These investments will support critical infrastructure improvements, create good-paying jobs, and boost our local economies so that Texans can continue to thrive for generations to come.”

“As the San Marcos Regional Airport grows, so should its infrastructure,” said Representative Greg Casar (TX-35). “This $2.5 million from the Economic Development Administration will help improve the roadway around the airport and create good jobs for Hays County residents in the process.”
