Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.3 million grant to the city of Greenville, Texas, to make roadway improvements needed to expand the region’s critical aerospace sector.
This project will construct a new roadway alignment for the existing Majors Road at Greenville Municipal Airport – Majors Field – to attract new businesses and help existing businesses expand their operations. The EDA investment will be matched with $1.3 million in local funds and is expected to create 400 jobs and generate $40 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.
“President Biden is committed to supporting our communities and regions as they work to improve their economies,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment will provide the infrastructure needed to support Greenville’s growing aerospace sector to create new economic opportunity and jobs in the region.”
“We commend the city of Greenville for working to support the growth of aerospace businesses; a critical economic driver for the region,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “The improved roadway will support business expansion, growing the regional economy and creating hundreds of good-paying jobs.”
“Texas has been a national leader in aerospace for decades, and this grant to the City of Greenville will help keep our state at the helm of this critical industry,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “Roadway improvements are vital to the success of growing communities, and I thank the Economic Development Administration for this investment which will bring hundreds of jobs and decades of economic opportunity to North Texas.”
“I am thankful to the Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Administration for awarding this grant to the City of Greenville,” said Congressman Pat Fallon (TX-04). “I am proud to partner with government and industry leaders in Greenville to deliver this funding which will spur economic growth and job creation in our region.”
